The upgradation of infrastructure of the Patparganj and Okhla industrial Phase-III areas in the capital, transferred to Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (DSIIDC) following the industrial policy of 2010-12, will start from July 4, an official said in New Delhi.

A DSIIDC spokesman Sunday said the Delhi government's developmental agency intends to upgrade the infrastructure of the industrial areas by improving roads and drains as well as footpaths. The agency responsible for upgradation work shall also maintain the services for five years.

DSIIDC will complete the construction work in both cases within six months. The agency assigned the job will maintain these industrial areas for five years.

The spokesman said the cost of the construction and maintenance in Patparganj industrial area is about Rs.9.4 crore while it is about Rs.6.5 crore in Okhla Industrial area Phase-III.

The Patparganj industrial area, planned and commissioned in 1992, has 609 industrial units engaged in manufacturing surgical goods, metal processing, dyeing, electro-plating, rolling and other high manufacturing activity.

The Okhla Industrial Estate Phase-III is one of the oldest industrial areas in the city. Conceived by the country's first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru, it was developed in 1958 to accommodate light manufacturing units. In the last five decades, the character of the area has changed considerably from manufacturing to service industry as Delhi has expanded into a trading and service hub. This estate has 260 industrial units.
