The All India Bread Manufacturers’ Association (AIBMA), a national level organization servicing and promoting the interests of the bread industry since 1978 elected Ramesh Mago, Managing Director, Kitty Industries Pvt. Ltd., Ludhiana as President of the Association for 2009-10.

Pankaj Agarwal, Britannia Industries Ltd. was elected Sr. Vice-President in. In keeping with the national character of the Association, the Executive Committee members were also elected to represent each and every region of the country.

The bakery industry is one of the largest among the processing food industries in India and bread industry which is part of the bakery industry has been growing at the rate of around 6-7%.

The Association has been organizing workshops and Seminars on topical issues concerning small and medium bread manufacturers in the country with the help of expertise available with its members.

The Association has worked hard for the promotion of bread industry in the country. AIBMA has been instrumental in obtaining the withdrawal of VAT on bread in various states.

The association is engaged in a continuous dialogue with the central and state governments underlining the various problem areas experienced by the bread industry in relation to levies, PFA, weights and measures and packaging, etc. in the ensuing year the AIBMA proposes to also embark a consumer awareness campaign for popularizing bread and doubling its consumption from the present level of 2 kg pr person per annum against consumption level of 20 kgs per person per annum in Europe and 12 kgs in Sri Lanka.

The second agenda identified for work by the Association is to provide nutritive and hygienic products to suit the taste and health needs of the modern consumers. The Association is in dialogue with the Indian Food Fortification Network to work on a plan for making available fortified bread.
