Ascom Wireless Solutions Receives the Red Dot Design Award

PR Newswire | 10 Apr, 2012
GOTHENBURG, Sweden: When creating technical equipment for a hectic hospital environment, to be handled by every imaginable end-user, one needs to cover a lot of aspects. The current models of Ascom's teleCARE Patient Handsets have already received the Red Dot Design Award for that very achievement - and now the coming versions follow in their footsteps.

"Form and function really comes together beautifully and we're proud to be recognized by the jury. This bodes very well for the launch to come," says Jan Ringenier, Product Manager Nurse Call Products at Ascom Wireless Solutions.

The Red Dot Design Award is a well-known international product design prize awarded by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Essen, Germany. Founded in 1955 (the same year as Ascom Wireless Solutions) the jury now gets about 14.000 submissions from 70 countries annually - making it the biggest design competition in the world. This year Ascom's new teleCARE Patient Handsets were amongst the contestants in the "life science and medicine" category. A range of products so new that it has yet to hit the market.

"The patient handset is split in four different models, ranging from one with a basic set of functions to a fairly advanced product. Designwise we were determined to make them harmonize clearly, so that you feel that they belong to the same product family. Also, in order for the products to not become overpowering, we needed to make them inviting, natural to pick up and friendly. Without losing the overall sense of high-quality and reliability. And I believe that our design team has done an outstanding job," says Jan Ringenier.

Ascom is currently updating the international sales organization on the new products, scheduled for a global launch in May.
