LOVEFiLM strikes major digital deal with MGM

PR Newswire | 26 Aug, 2010
LONDON: LOVEFiLM has agreed a major UK distribution deal with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. (MGM) to enable its members to watch MGM titles online and on internet-enabled devices through the LOVEFiLM Player.

MGM boasts one of the largest film libraries of any Hollywood studio and the agreement sees LOVEFiLM, Europe's largest subscription service streaming movies and TV episodes over the internet and sending DVDs by post, bolster its digital streaming offering with a selection of top titles.

Simon Calver, CEO of LOVEFiLM, commented: "We're delighted to bring MGM's legendary content to LOVEFiLM. With over 85 years making top quality movies, the MGM stable will be a notable addition to our expanding 'Watch Online' service. With the digital revolution underway, our opportunity for growth is huge and the addition of MGM titles is a substantial development in enhancing our digital catalogue."

Gary Marenzi, Co-President, MGM World Television, said: "LOVEFiLM has put together an attractive offering for British audiences and MGM is pleased to be working with them to grow the on demand markets with some of the most passionate movie lovers in the world."

MGM Classics will be available to LOVEFiLM members as part of their subscription including the multi-Oscar winning films West Side Story and The Apartment as well as the original 1974 BAFTA-nominated The Taking of Pelham One Two Three, among other award-winning films. New MGM releases will be available to access instantly on a transactional basis.
