In a recent interaction with SME Times, Jayant of National Power Industries shared valuable insights into the company’s consistent growth and transformation within the electrical and power infrastructure sector. With over five decades of industry experience, the company emphasized its expertise in manufacturing and supplying high-quality transmission and distribution components, supported by advanced testing facilities and robust quality management systems. The discussion also highlighted its capability to cater to a wide spectrum of sectors—including government utilities, infrastructure projects, and large-scale industries—by delivering reliable, efficient, and performance-driven solutions. This approach reinforces National Power Industries’ reputation as a trusted and forward-looking partner in the global power industry.

1. Can you walk us through the journey of National Power Industries since its inception?

National Power Industries began its journey in 1972 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, with a clear vision of contributing to India’s growing power infrastructure. Over the past five decades, the company has evolved from a regional manufacturer into a globally recognized name in electrical components and transmission solutions. Our growth has been driven by a consistent focus on quality, technological adaptation, and strong industry relationships. Today, we proudly serve government bodies, semi-government organizations, and large corporations across domestic and international markets. This 50+ year journey reflects not just longevity, but resilience, innovation, and the trust we have built with our clients worldwide.

2. What are the core values that have sustained your company’s long-term success?

Our success is deeply rooted in three core values: quality, reliability, and integrity. At National Power Industries, we believe that quality is not a final checkpoint but a continuous process embedded in every stage of operations. Reliability is reflected in our long-standing relationships with clients and partners, including government institutions. Integrity drives our ethical business practices and transparent dealings. These principles have enabled us to remain competitive in a rapidly evolving energy landscape. Over time, these values have not only shaped our internal culture but also strengthened our external reputation as a dependable partner in the electrical manufacturing industry.

3. How does your integrated manufacturing model benefit your customers?

Our integrated manufacturing model gives us a significant competitive advantage. By sourcing high-quality raw materials and components from our own group companies, we maintain strict control over the entire production lifecycle. This ensures consistency, reduces dependency on third parties, and enhances product reliability. From basic hardware components to complex metering cubicles, every product meets stringent quality standards before reaching the customer. This vertical integration also enables faster turnaround times and cost efficiency, which ultimately benefits our clients. It allows us to deliver products that are not only durable but also aligned with international performance benchmarks.

4. How does National Power Industries ensure consistent product quality?

Quality assurance at National Power Industries is governed by a robust Total Quality Management (TQM) system. This approach ensures that quality is monitored at every stage—from raw material procurement to final product delivery. Our processes comply with internationally recognized standards such as ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015. Additionally, our products are certified under CE, IEC, UL, GS, GMP, and ROHS frameworks. These certifications validate our commitment to both product excellence and environmental responsibility. By integrating quality into our operational DNA, we ensure that every product delivered meets the highest industry standards and customer expectations.

5. Could you elaborate on your testing and quality control infrastructure?

We have invested heavily in a state-of-the-art testing laboratory at our Ahmedabad facility to ensure the highest level of product reliability. Our testing capabilities include impulse voltage testing using advanced impulse generators and digital analyzers, high-voltage analysis with HV-110 kV testers, and AC/DC Hipot systems. We also conduct partial discharge detection and use current injection kits and CT/PT/CVT testing systems. For field reliability, we utilize tools like meggers, earth testers, and coating thickness gauges. This comprehensive testing framework ensures that our products can withstand extreme electrical and environmental conditions, minimizing risks and ensuring operational safety.

6. What does your product portfolio look like, and how does it cater to modern infrastructure needs?

National Power Industries offers a comprehensive portfolio tailored to modern power distribution and transmission requirements. Our offerings include composite and polymer insulators, air break switches, disconnecting switches, lightning arresters, drop-out fuses, and high-voltage HRC fuses. Additionally, we supply safety equipment such as rubber gloves, matting, and fire safety tools. Our range extends to conductors, cable jointing kits, street light poles, and specialized hardware like clamps, connectors, and stay sets. This diverse portfolio enables us to act as a one-stop solution provider for substation equipment and transmission line materials, addressing both safety and efficiency in power infrastructure.

7. How has your company adapted to the evolving global energy landscape?

The global energy sector is undergoing rapid transformation, with increased focus on efficiency, sustainability, and smart infrastructure. National Power Industries has proactively adapted by incorporating advanced materials like polymer insulators and upgrading its manufacturing and testing technologies. We have aligned our processes with global standards and expanded our export footprint to meet international demand. Our continuous investment in innovation and engineering excellence allows us to stay ahead of industry trends. By combining traditional expertise with modern technology, we ensure that our products remain relevant and effective in the changing energy ecosystem.

8. What role does innovation play in your operations?

Innovation is a key driver of our growth and competitiveness. We continuously invest in research, advanced machinery, and process optimization to improve product performance and efficiency. Our focus on innovation is evident in our adoption of cutting-edge testing systems and modern production lines. Additionally, we work closely with industry experts and engineers to develop solutions that address emerging challenges in power distribution. Our recognition through awards such as Best Innovation and Best Design underscores our commitment to staying technologically advanced while maintaining practical, user-friendly solutions for our clients.

9. Your company has received numerous awards. What do these recognitions signify?

The awards we have received, both nationally and internationally, are a testament to our commitment to excellence, innovation, and social responsibility. Honors such as the Goldstar International Economic Award, Rajiv Gandhi Excellence Award, and SME Business Excellence Awards reflect our leadership in quality and management practices. Meanwhile, recognitions like the Mother Teresa Sadbhavna Award highlight our dedication to community welfare and ethical business conduct. These accolades validate our efforts and motivate us to continue delivering high-quality products while contributing positively to society.

10. What is your vision for the future of National Power Industries?

Our vision is to strengthen our position as a global leader in electrical and power infrastructure solutions. We aim to expand our international presence while continuing to uphold the “Made in India” standard of quality. With 25% of our production already exported, we are focused on increasing this share through strategic partnerships and market expansion. We also plan to invest further in automation, sustainable practices, and advanced engineering capabilities. Ultimately, our goal is not just to manufacture products, but to empower industries, support national growth, and contribute to a more reliable and efficient global energy ecosystem.
