Considering the potential of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) in the northeast region, the government is gearing up to generate employments in the sector, reports a leading news agency ANI.

Inaugurating a conclave on the implementation of MSME scheme in Nagaland recently, Union Minister for MSME, Kalraj Mishra announced a grant of Rs. 6 crore for setting up a 'Khadi Plaza' in Nagaland.

The conclave, which aimed at encouraging entrepreneurship, employment and sustained development in the MSME sector in the northeast region, was attended by representatives from all northeastern states.

"It is quite successful and this will enhance the prospect of the Industry department with the products of NEPU, especially in the food processing unit, to encourage the industrial sector," said H. Rohluna, Industry Minister, Mizoram.

"The Government of India is seriously undertaking lots of manufacturing and other related activities, and we hope that the visit of the Union Minister will help the entire region as well as uplift the manufacturing area and explore the potential in Nagaland in the area of manufacturing," said Khekugha Muru, a businessman.

Later, the minister also visited a Tool Room and Training Centre in Dimapur, where specialised tools, dyes, moulds, jigs and fixtures are designed and manufactured, and interacted with officials and trainees, and appreciated their work.

"I can say that tool rooms are very much useful for Nagaland. I appreciate it, and the Government of India, especially the MSME, has already declared that this room should be extended and we will provide it to achieve its full potential," said Mishra.

A National Level Vendor Development Programme-cum-industrial exhibition was also organised in Dimapur.

Altogether 50 stalls were set up, where the local artisans exhibited various products like traditional shawls, bags, jewellery, bamboo and cane products, artificial flowers and house hold tools.

"We get a chance to showcase our products, especially in this kind of exhibition and also that's how we get exposure. Basically, we don't have a shop but doing such kind of exhibition we get a chance so it is very helpful for us," said Akhunuo, an exhibitor.

"I have come here for the first time, and I'm hoping that this will give me some exposure to interact with local people, especially in terms of business," said Khrienuo Usou, another exhibitor.

A large number of people in northeast are engaged in small and medium enterprises, thus giving a boost to the economy that can generate more jobs in the sector.
