To explore the opportunities for micro, small and medium enterprises in country's defence sector, industry body Federation of Indian Micro and Small & Medium Enterprises (FISME) is organising a MSME Defence meet on June 11 in New Delhi.

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar is scheduled to inaugurate the meet, informed FISME in a press release on Friday.

"The Indian MSME sector provides the life line to India's most advanced sectors such as Auto, Engineering, Electronics, IT& BT among others. Yet, so far neither has it been able to contribute to country's defence production efforts nor the defence OEMs/ DPSUs have systemically engaged MSMEs in the defence production supply chains," release said.

Now that the Government is seriously focusing to build indigenous capabilities in defence production through slew of policy interventions including offsets, FISME is holding a National Seminar on "Opportunities for MSMEs in Defence Sector" on 11th June.

The objective of the programme is to communicate to the Indian MSMEs of  immense opportunities emerging in the Defence sector.

These opportunities are  not just limited to regular defence suppliers but also for companies in the field of Electronics, Information Technology, Engineering, Precision Components, Sheet Metal, Castings, Forgings, Plastic Components etc. have a very important role to play, it said.

These companies have the opportunity of being supply chain not only directly to Indian defence suppliers but also by supplying to overseas defence suppliers who are equally keen to source from MSMEs to meet the defence offsets requirement which is already implemented and mandatory.

FISME as a national body of MSMEs has been working in the area of facilitating MSMEs access to defence production.
