Union Minister for MSME, Kalraj Mishra Monday said that Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), controlled by Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), has been launched to solve the problems of unemployment in the country.

"PMEGP scheme has been launched to solve the problems of un-employed youths in the country," said Mishra at a function to celebrate 60 years of Khadi Gramodyog Bhawan, Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) in New Delhi.

PMEGP has been announced on 15th August,2008 and launched in place of REGP Scheme. PMEGP is a credit-linked subsidy programme launched by Ministry of MSME in 2008-09 for creation of employment in both rural and urban area of the country.

Under PMEGP, a total of 2.94 lakh micro enterprises have been assisted with a margin money subsidy of Rs. 5734.03 crore providing employment to an estimated 25.76 lakh persons since its inception till January 31, 2015 in the country so far.

He was addressing the students from various colleges of Delhi University, Indraprastha University etc who had gathered to join the celebration of Khadi Gramodyog Bhawan.

The Minister while having interaction with the youths laid emphasis on making Khadi designer friendly and appealing to the youths and in line with the call given by Hon'ble Prime Minister of India to adopt Khadi in their day to day life,  he urged youth to  join hands to promote Khadi and also adopt Khadi products in their day to day use.

He also stated that Mahatma Gandhi is the greatest Brand Ambassador for Khadi.

It was also highlighted during the event that Khadi Gramodyog Bhawan which had modest sale of Rs. 16.95 lacs during 1955-56 has reached a turnover of Rs 72 crores  during 2014-15.

The Khadi Bhawan also made a record achievement of achieving an increase of 100 percent net profit over the previous year i.e. Rs. 55 lacs profit from the previous year of Rs 27 lacs.

The event  wasalso attended by MadhavLal,Secretary, Ministry of MSME, S.N.Tripathi, Joint Secretary, Ministry of MSME, B.H.Anil Kumar, JS(ARI) CEO & Commissioner, KVIC and A.K.Jha, Director General, NIESBUD.
