The 29th Edition of India Carpet Expo has concluded successful on March 30 and has generated new hopes for Hand Knotted Carpet Industry, reports Carpet Export Promotion Council (CEPC) on Tuesday.

The Expo was inaugurated on the March 27 by Honorable Minister of State for Textiles (Independent Charge) Santosh Kumar Gangwar.

On his concluding remarks Chairman, CEPC, Kuldeep R. Wattal informed that based on the success of this year's Expo the 30th India Carpet Expo which is to be held in Varanasi in the month of October, 2015 shall also showcase both the segments of carpet weaving trainings provided, especially in the hamlets Bhadohi-Mirzapur and Varanasi carpet belt, under the aegis of Ministry of Textiles.

CEPC is also planning to have exhibitions for Domestic Consumers, as the domestic consumption of carpet is also on rise and Chairman, Carpet Export Promotion Council suggested a number of exhibitions to be held in the Metropolitan cities in the Financial Year 2015-16. 

Chairman, CEPC further informed that the Calendar of Skill Development events has been launched by CEPC and we have started providing training for weaving Handmade carpet in both the segments of Hand-Knotted and Hand-Tufted to the new artisans, specially to the women folklore in the villages of Mirzapur-Bhadohi Carpet Belt under CHCDS Scheme of Govt of India to fill the gap of skilled workforce.

​Chairman also disclosed that they have set-up a target of inviting buyers from 65 countries for the next edition of India Carpet Expo, which is going to be held in October 2015 in Varanasi and the preparation for the same shall commence from the month of May itself and suggestions for betterment of this Expo shall be sought both from buyers and the participating Member Exporters. 

The Textiles Minister urged the exporting community to innovate and improve their techniques & technology of weaving and also need to improve their designs and presentation of products so as to maintain their exports and also retain No one Status of Carpet exporting country in the World

He lauded the role of Carpet Council in doing excellent job by boosting the handmade industry through these specialized shows amongst overseas buyers. He also complimented the Chairman of the Carpet Council and its core team for putting up this Mega Show.

Chairman, CEPC stated that around 372 buyers from all over the world registered their presence during the four day Fair, which shall generate an estimated business to the tune of around Rs. 450 crores over the coming months. 

Carpet Importers from new countries like Vietnam, Serbia, Hungary, Zimbabwe, Croatia, Jordon, Morocco, Bulgaria, Colorado, Hong-Kong, Thailand, Korea, Kenya, also visited for the first time in the Expo and has thus opened new avenues for marketing for Indian hand knotted carpets in these countries.

Council allowed 50 percent discount First time to the participants to encourage the small and new entrepreneurs having less than Rs. 25.00 lakhs exports during the previous year.  These participants who got 50 percent subsidy got good business and hence, the purpose of promoting small and medium exporters was also achieved.

To maintain transparency, the Carpet Export Promotion Council took the initiative of allotments through draws, which was appreciated by all the participants, the industry and overseas carpet buyers were happy with the overall arrangement of Expo.

During the Expo the visiting Turkish importers (25) and the participating exporters who are regularly exports to Turkey discussed the problems arising out of hike in import duty of hand knotted carpets by Turkish Government.   They also discussed the impact it will have on India’s exports to Turkey.  Certain suggestions were shared by both the sides so as to have a lesser impact on business by this hike.
