Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), Kalraj Mishra has said it was "essential" to make products manufactured by  MSMEs "more competitive" and "cost effective", reports media.

"Today's global environment has brought in new opportunities and challenges before micro, small and medium enterprises. They have to be content against larger volumes of mechanised production, better designs and marketing of products at lower costs," he said at the annual three-day event SOUMEX 2014 in Chennai.

Stating that the MSME sector accounts for 45 percent of the country's manufacturing output,
Mishra said, "It is therefore essential for us to devise methods to make the products of our MSMEs more competitive and cost effective."

The minister was in Chennai to take part in the "SOUMEX 2014" on Saturday, the annual three-day event, organised by National Small Industries Corporation and Tamil Nadu Small and Tiny Industries Association.

"Prioritising credit to MSMEs, training and incubation, performance and credit rating scheme, technology upgradation are some of the steps taken by my Ministry to assist MSMEs compete in the global market," he said.

According to him, the MSME sector accounts for about 45 per cent of the manufacturing output and over 40 per cent of national exports of the country.

"In recent years, the MSME sector has consistently registered a higher growth rate compared to the overall industrial sector," he said.

MSMEs credit policy
C Sunil H | Wed Dec 31 13:21:27 2014
Res.Sir, with due regards, it is indeed time to give a fresh look to our credit policy for MSMEs along with the existing ones which is the backbone of our economy and a lot is to be done for industries of our country and to make them competitive various measures are to be considered seriously and timely implementation is also to be checked otherwise there is system in our country that the benefit reaches in fractions from top to bottom and the real sufferer is left with the option of suicide due to delaying tactics and sheer apathy of certain inefficient and incapable officers. There should be a direct approach channel to the office of the minister for entreprenur to the benefits and welfare programmes declared by the ministry of industries. These are a few suggestions out of many for perusal. Thanks.
