Technology centres making MSMEs globally competitive: Minister

Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), K H Muniyappa Wednesday said that Technology Centres are making MSMEs globally competitive.
"The Technology Centres in the country, to provide technological support to MSMEs, are making them globally competitive," MSME minister said during the foundation stone laying ceremony of two different Technology Centres, one at Industrial Growth Centre, Saha, Haryana and other at Ch. Ranbir Singh IMT, Rohtak in same state on Wednesday.
"The objective of the scheme is to establish more Technology Centres in the country to provide technological support to MSMEs, and thereby making them globally competitive. The Centre will assist the units (MSMEs) in improving their quality of end product and export," he added.
The proposed project cost of the Technology Centre in Rohtak would be to the tune of Rs.125 crore, located in 19.8 acres of land and the proposed project cost of Saha Centre would be to the tune of Rs.100 crore, located in 10 acres of land. The both lands has been provided by the State Government of Haryana free of cost.
The Minister underlined that after setting up of MSME Technology Centre at Saha, more than 3500 units manufacturing Scientific Instruments, Glass wares, Electrical Appliances etc will get advantage in developing world class dies, tools, molds, jigs, fixtures in addition to testing facilities and trained technical manpower.
"Due to setting up of this centre, MSME units of district Ambala will start developing their new products, proto-types and other tooling locally as presently they are getting these services from outstations like Delhi, Chandigarh, Mumbai etc.," he added.
The Minister stated that the Technology Centre on completion and becoming operational will be of immense help to industries from not only in and around Saha, but from the Northern region of the country as well.
"Also, the youth shall find the training programmes to be conducted by this Technology Centre quite useful to enhance their employment potential," said MSME minister.
At the meeting in Rohtak, the Minister for MSME impressed upon the fact that worldwide MSMEs have been regarded as the engine of economic growth and a tool for promoting equitable development.
Contributing with 8 percent to India's GDP the sector employs an estimated 8 crore people spread over 3.6 crore enterprises that produce a diversified product basket.
To meet the enhanced and ever growing demand for tooling, product & process development as well as skilled manpower the Ministry of MSME has launched the scheme titled Technology Centre Systems Programme (TCSP).
The Minister said that Rohtak is an established industrial hub as a number of industries are operating from the region.
Industrial Model Township (IMT) Rohtak is positioned to emerge as the second most important industrial corridor. Numerous varieties of industrial fasteners, engineering products, chemicals and other items are being manufactured and exported to various countries across the globe from this region.
After setting up of MSME Technology Centre at Rohtak more than 4500 MSME units. It was also stated that the Technology Centre on completion and becoming operational will be of immense help to industries from not only in and around Rohtak, but from the Northern region of the country as well.
