Giving the great importance to the Khadi and Village Industries programmes, which are the backbone for the development of rural economy of our country, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Micro, small and medium Enterprises, K.H. Muniyappa inaugurates the MSME Expo and Buyer-Sellers meet in Raebareli on Wednesday.

"The Government is giving great importance to the Khadi and Village Industries programmes, which are the backbone for the development of rural economy of our country," said Muniyappa, while inaugurating the exhibition.

The "Zonal level Exhibition of Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP)" and the "Vendor development Program & Buyer-Sellers Meet" organized by the Ministry of Micro, small and medium Enterprises (MSME), Govt. of India at the Feroz Gandhi Degree College Ground, Raebareli. Earlier the programme was scheduled to be inaugurated by Sonia Gandhiji, UPA, Chairperson.

Muniyappa said that State of Uttar Pradesh is most important from the point of view of the development of Khadi and Village Industries activities, as it contributes 24.69 percent share in total khadi and 11.75 percent in total village industries production under KVI sector in the country.

In this context, he informed that he has fulfilled his promise which he made during his last visit to Raebareli in November 2012.

He informed that he has sanctioned Rs. 3.86 crore under the Khadi Reform Development Programme (KRDP) for the modernization of the Central Sliver Plant in Raebareli which is the oldest sliver plant established in 1986. The modernization of this 27 years old plant will benefit around 225 khadi institutions in Uttar Pradesh and will also meet the raw material need of around 25 khadi institutions working in Dehradun, Meerut and Jharkhand. Under KRDP the Government plans to modernize and strengthen 300 khadi institutions with ADB assistance of Rs. 750 crores.

Later, he inaugurated the Vendor Development Programme and Buyers-Sellers Meet at Raebareli which was attended by the central PSUs like Rail coach factory, NTPC, BHEL, banks, NSIC and more than 150 entrepreneurs of the area.

The objective of the seminar was to sensitise Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in this region of the New Procurement Policy of the Government and also apprise them of opportunities of business & procurement procedures of bulk purchasers like Railways, Defence, IRCON, BSNL, HAL, NTPC, ITI etc. and other Central Government Departments.

The programme will aim at Vendor Capacity Building of existing SMEs of the Region and will also provide them an opportunity to display their products. Similarly, Railways and other Public Sector Undertakings will also display their products. Banks and rating agencies have also been invited in order to facilitate funding requirement of MSMEs.

He also advised NSIC to undertake the study of the local requirements of SMEs of this region and if required, to set up liaison cum marketing office in this area to provide required assistance to MSMEs.

At the end, he said, given the enormous potential in this region this was just the beginning of opening up opportunities for local MSMEs.
