Despite slowdown in global market since 2007, exports of telecom equipment from India is growing at a healthy rate of 22 percent, the Telecom Equipment and Services Export Promotion Council (TEPC) said Thursday.

"Since 2007-08, when TEPC was formed, our compound annual growth rate is 22 percent and we (India) have exported telecom equipment to the tune of Rs 16,350 crore till December 2012 and it is proposed that during 2012-13, the exports would be worth Rs 22,000 crore," said TEPC Secretary R. K. Pathak.

"To promote and
accentuate telecom exports form India, the Ministry Commerce & Industry and Ministry of Communication & IT have set up the Telecom Equipment and Services Export Promotion Council (TEPC)," said Pathak at press conference in New Delhi.

"However the overall telecom exports, around 50 percent comprise mobile handsets," he added.

The proposed exports of telecom services would be Rs. 8500 crore during 2012-13, he said.

The Indian telecom sector, the fastest growing sector, have the subscribers base of more than 893 million with more that 15.01 million broadband connections.

TEPC also aims to facilitate Indian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in telecom sector. And so the c
ouncil will be taking 15 SMEs to Singapore for CommunicAsia 2013 that is to be held from June 18-21, 2013.

"T
he Department of Commerce, under the Market Access Initiative (MAI) scheme, is providing 50 percent subsidy and one way airfare to such  SMEs," Pathak said.

"These participants can generate business by increasing exports to other countries and can strengthen their global market positions. The three events - CommunicAsia, EnterpriseIT and BroadcastAsia 2013 - is the best opportunity for them to meet target audience and discuss issues with global market leaders and industry players all under one place," he added.

Over 1200 exhibitors from over 100 countries are participating in the four-day mega B2B event to be held in Singapore.

CommunicAsia and EnterpriseIT - Asia's largest and most established information and communication technology (ICT) event - will showcase the latest technologies and trends for the entire communication ecosystem.

While BroadcastAsia, to be held together with CommunicAsia and EnterpriseIT, will also feature technologies and products across broadcasting, pro-audio, film and TV industries.
