A three-day Business Forum to strengthen economic cooperation between India and Russia as part of the "Days of Moscow in Delhi" event opened in New Delhi on Friday.

Cultural, literacy and fashion events will also held during the next two days, a spokesman of the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (DSIIDC), which organised the event, said.

Over 60 businessmen from Delhi and Moscow participated in the forum, which was "held in a business like constructive and cooperative atmosphere", the spokesman said.

Both parties acknowledged the importance and mutual interest in exchanging experience accumulated by Moscow and Delhi in areas like road and transport infrastructure, water and sewage, security and emergency management, e-governance, healthcare,

pharmaceuticals and IT.

The parties agreed that this could be best achieved through exchanging working groups consisting of experts, conducting joint projects in the aforementioned spheres and promoting partnership projects, the spokesman said.

Inaugurating the Forum Delhi Industries Minister Haroon Yusuf mentioned that a sister–city relationship will promote and broaden culture and economic and trade relations.

He also mentioned that the endeavour of the Delhi government is to promote knowledge-based, high-technology and skilled industries, develop world-class infrastructure within industrial estates and facilitate business through procedural simplifications and e-governance measures.

He also stated that because of a deep talent pool, particularly in high technology areas, Delhi provides excellent investment opportunities. In terms of ease of doing business, Delhi is one of the top ten cities in India.

According to the Doing Business in India–2009 study by World Bank, Delhi ranks 6th among 17 cities surveyed. In fact, the survey ranks Delhi at the top for the "Starting Business" parameter, indicating that companies wanting to set up business in Delhi require least number of days and procedures to do so.
