Complimenting Pranab Mukherjee on his election as the 13th President of India, exporters body Federation of Indian Exporters Organisations (FIEO), said the most suitable candidate has been elevated to the highest constitutional post in the country.

M. Rafeeque Ahmed, President, FIEO, said that as one of the most experienced and senior leaders of the country, Mukherjee will be able to provide guidance to the Government as well as the country.

Mukherjee has wide and rich experience of working in key Ministries and his exposure in Commerce, Finance Defence and External Affairs has made him a visionary. During his 45-year political career, he headed 83 of the 183 ministerial decision-making groups, known as Group of Ministers.

FIEO had various opportunities to interact with Mukherjee to seek his benign help to facilitate smooth export activity in the country so as to grow to a desired level. Pranab Da, as he is popularly called, has contributed significantly to exports.

During his tenure as Commerce and finance minister, Mukherjee allowed a bunch of measures that improved the competitiveness of India's exports, said the FIEO in a statement on Monday.
