Plan India Launches Online Fund Raiser

PR Newswire | 08 Mar, 2013
NEW DELHI: 'Because I am a Girl' (BIAAG) is a global initiative of Plan India, member of Plan International - one of the world's largest child-centred community development organization, that endeavours to promote girls' rights by equipping them with assets, skills and knowledge necessary to be self-reliant.

In alignment with this mission, Plan India's fund-raiser 'Educate a Girl' [http://www.educateagirl.org ] has been launched on March 8, 2013 to run for a week. During this period, this online fund-raiser will urge those of us who are fortunate to have a privileged life to make generous contributions to the cause. Donations can begin with as low as Rs. 500.

"Education is the key tool for empowering girls and investing in girls delivers a higher return than any other investment made in a country's development," says Bhagyashri Dengle, Executive Director - Plan India. Adding to this, Sapna Kar, Chief Advisor of BIAAG, mentioned, "It is surprising how much very little can accomplish: Rs. 500 can sponsor schooling and school supplies of a girl-child for a month and Rs. 6000 is enough to cover her education costs for a year."

The funds raised through this exclusively digital fund raising initiative will go towards ensuring more and more girls have the opportunity to complete primary and secondary education in a safe and supportive community environment and acquire the skills needed to access economic opportunities. As an integral part of the communication idea, the campaign projects a mosaic of a happy girl [http://www.educateagirl.org ] child made of blocks. Each block is worth a donation of Rs. 500 and when a donor makes a contribution, his or her picture gets embedded in that block, providing the instant satisfaction of 'standing behind the girl child'. Plan India aims to complete the picture in a week.

Plan has been fortunate to garner the support of eminent Women Achievers from all walks of life who are the 'Ambassadors' for this fund raiser. They have made financial contributions themselves and urge others to follow suit. The ambassadors include Indra Nooyi, Anu Aga, Zia Mody, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Sulajja Firodia Motwani, Sangita Jindal, Shobhaa De, Kirthiga Reddy, Vandana Luthra, Preetha Reddy, Anoushka Shankar, Arti Kirloskar and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

It's our turn next. Let's visit www.educateagirl.org [http://www.educateagirl.org ], donate and make a positive difference to the life of at least one girl child.
