Zuari Cement's Chennai Grinding Unit Multi-awarded for Quality

PR Newswire | 19 Jul, 2013
BANGALORE: In this year 2013, Zuari Cement grinding centre in Chennai has won two unique recognitions in a row in the fields of quality and environment.

In January, it received the ISO 9001:2008 quality management system certification by NQA, a leading assessment, verification and certification body working in partnership with a wide range of businesses, government departments and organisations to help improve performance in quality, environment and health and safety management.

In April, it was the first unit in its area to be certified in compliance with the environment management system ISO 14001:2004.

These certifications represent a very important achievement for the Chennai plant also because they have been obtained in record time. As a matter of fact, the unit was commissioned in 2011 and it has been recognized as compliant with the ISO procedures within a very short period.

This multi-awarded grinding unit is situated in Attippattu, about 35 km from Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu state. It has a capacity of one million tons and is strategically located to serve the southern part of India.

About Zuari Cement:

Zuari Cement is part of the worldwide Italcementi Group, the fifth largest cement producer in the world. Zuari Cement has a total cement manufacturing capacity of 6.2 million tons in India, which includes two manufacturing units at Sitapuram and Yerraguntla, along with a grinding centre at Chennai. Zuari Cement is developing a project of 3 million ton per year cement plant in North Karnataka and a large grinding unit is also being erected at Sholapur in Maharashtra.

A captive power plant at Sitapuram with a capacity of 43 MW augments the power capabilities of the company. In line with the Groups' global focus on quality and environment, Zuari Cement's manufacturing units are ISO:9001 certified and ISO:14000 Certified. With over 5% market share in the south Indian cement market and sales of over 249 million Euros in 2012, Zuari Cement has chalked out ambitious plans for the future. This includes strengthening its presence in the Maharashtra, Orissa, W.Bengal and North East markets.
