Drishti Collaborates With SSF to Enrich Underprivileged Students

PR Newswire | 05 Feb, 2013
Drishti Collaborates With the Shiksha Sankalp Foundation (SSF) to Enrich Lives of the Underprivileged Students

GURGAON, India: Drishti-Soft, the leading communication services provider, enters into partnership with the Shiksha Sankalp Foundation (SSF), to help the poor and underprivileged students get access to quality education. Shiksha Sankalp aims at the betterment of the education system for poor students by organising a series of evaluation tests and incentivizing the volition for making greater efforts towards their studies.

Drishti would support the school education of 24 children from underprivileged families for a period of three years. The batch has been conferred the title of 'Drishti Batch' and the top performing student would be known as the 'Drishti Scholar'. These children will be assisted in their studies by volunteers who belong to the localities where the students hail from. Some of the major activities which our volunteers will be actively engaging in include: Comprehensive assistance during the enrollment process, visiting target area for soliciting enrollments, assistance in opening bank accounts, updating student data in "Pardarshee" MIS system and evaluating the SAP test.

SSF conducts the SAP test at an interval of every four months and based on their grades, students are awarded stipends under the Learning Rewards Model. The stipend plays a motivating role for the students as it encourages them to study harder and give their best. For the parents too, it becomes a source of income and they too exhibit a keen interest in encouraging their children to study harder. With the help of this stipend, students are also able to afford tutors for themselves.

Another wonderful feature of the SSF initiative is the MIS system called "Pardarshee". Using this MIS system donors can track the student performance can also monitor the utilization of their funds. All transactions under the Learning Rewards model are routed through Pardarshee system to ensure complete transparency.

The partnership between the two organizations was formalized this January 2013. Drishti, as a part of its CSR initiatives, provisioned a team of volunteers who went to the SAP test sites and contributed by invigilating the exam. Not only that, this team of volunteers also had detailed rounds of interactions with students as well as parents, before and after the test. The volunteers also demonstrated how parents could spend quality time with children while monitoring their educational progress.

Sachin Bhatia, VP-Business Development, Drishti-Soft says, "Drishti volunteers interacted with the students and their parents. They have also taken the responsibility of mentoring the students on a regular basis in order to help them improve their reading/writing skills and also motivate them to become responsible individuals. Through this joint venture with Shiksha Sankalp, Drishti supports the need for quality education for these underprivileged children and overall improvement in the prevailing educational ecosystem."

About Shiksha Sankalp:

"Shiksha Sankalp" in Sanskrit means "Resolve for Education". As the name itself indicates, Shiksha Sankalp is an effort to ensure that every underprivileged child in the world achieves age-appropriate level of academic knowledge and skills. The organization has developed an in-depth understanding of the complex barriers that prevent poor families in developing countries from obtaining effective school education for their children and that it stems largely from the socio-economic condition of these families. The challenge of universal and effective school education is important, complex and urgent and Shiksha Sankalp has a profound understanding of what it would take to spread effective education to millions of poor children within a short period of time.
