GVG Launches New Web-based Platform Designed to Test QoS, QoE

PR Newswire | 30 Aug, 2013
Global Voice Group Innovates by Launching a New Web-based Platform Designed to Test and Measure the Quality of Service in Mobile Telephony Services

CAPE TOWN, South Africa: Global Voice Group (GVG) is proud to announce the launch of its new platform for the testing and measurement of the Quality of Service (QoS) and Quality of Experience (QoE) in mobile telephony services, after more than one year of research and development.

Marketed under the name QoS Tracker, the new solution was developed by GVG as part of the company's Regulator360 application suite. This suite was specifically designed for the regulation authorities and other government bodies wishing to integrate New Information and Communication Technologies (NICTs) into their auditing systems and regulatory processes.

A solution combining standard tests and a subscriber-centric approach

The QoS Tracker consists of a web-based platform that allows for the automated measurement and testing of both the QoS and the QoE of mobile subscribers across the territory. The platform stands out through its speed of deployment and simplicity of use.

Its innovation also resides in the fact that it allows the regulator to implement, as a complement to the standard QoS test and measurement procedures, an approach to the monitoring of QoE that is similar to crowdsourcing. Through this approach, a virtually unlimited number of subscribers can download, from the Internet, an application that will run automated QoE tests from their mobile devices.

Unlike current solutions which only rely on stereotyped tests, the QoS Tracker can also collect, process and consolidate Key Performance Indicator (KPI) data based on automated tests carried out in real situations, as they are experienced by the subscribers.

For the very first time, regulation enforcement, quality of service assessment and reporting also involve the primary stakeholders, i.e. the subscribers themselves.

Implementation of the QoS Tracker

QoS Tracker has already been put to the test by regulators of the telecommunications sector.  The new solution will also be presented at the international meeting of the International Telecommunications Union's Quality of Service Development Group, which will take place in Accra (Ghana), from 16 to 20 September 2013.  GVG will take advantage of its participation in this event to exchange information about the latest approaches to QoS and QoE assessment focusing on the regulator's point of view.
