Sheltrex Promotes Youth Talent in Sports

PR Newswire | 24 Apr, 2013
CHENNAI: Sheltrex Chairman Mr. Rajesh Krishnan launched their new 'World Champion Builders' program in Chennai today. Gracing the occasion was Ms. Dipika Pallikal, India's top squash player who is the first athlete to be part of this program.

Legendary cricketer Mr. Kiran More, representing Lakshya, an NGO specialized in nurturing young sporting talent, was also present during the event. Sheltrex is a patron to Lakshya, who advises Sheltrex on the subject of transforming young athletes into international players.

Speaking on the occasion, Sheltrex Chairman and Brick Eagle MD Mr. Rajesh Krishnan said, "How do we build world class sports champions? By investing in a sports program that encourages young athletes from Tamil Nadu and all over India. The goal of the 'World Champion Builders' program is to look for rising stars of Tamil Nadu and nurture them into tomorrow's world champions. The program will identify at least 5 athletes in Tamil Nadu over the next 3 years. Since Sheltrex has launched its maiden project in Chennai, investing in the local community is high on its agenda. We are extremely proud to be associated with such a talented player as Dipika. We will work hard with her to help her on the journey to become the world's no.1 squash player."

Dipika is the first Indian woman to break into the top 10 in the WSA (Women's Squash [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squash_%28sport%29 ] Association) rankings. She has won 3 WISPA (Women's International Squash [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squash_%28sport%29 ] Players Association) tour titles in 2011 that saw her attain a career best ranking of 13. Later, she bettered that with a top 10 ranking in December 2012. Sheltrex will extend itself via financial support to ensure Dipika receives the best coaching, undergoes regular physiotherapy, works with a prominent psychiatrist, travels in comfortable conditions, etc.

The 'World Champion Builders' program is a youth and community sports program that will deliver on Sheltrex's commitment to encourage young sport talent. Sheltrex ensures to build safe, long lasting and happy communities. The company wants to invest in the community and what better way to do that than invest in young people. The company plans to create a meaningful and lasting community sport legacy by growing sports participation at the grassroots level through this program.

Under this program, Sheltrex plans to host community sports tournaments and other sports activities in schools and colleges across Tamil Nadu and eventually all over India. The program will consider sports like Lawn Tennis, Badminton, Squash, Shooting and Chess in its inaugural year.

Mr. Rajesh Krishnan added, "In the next five years, we want to transform the sports scenario in Tamil Nadu, so that playing sports becomes a lifelong habit for more youngsters and a regular choice for the majority. An active lifestyle is a key ethos of the Sheltrex community, we expect people to live healthy, happy & active life."
