Four Sanmina-SCI Manufacturing Facilities Receive Highest Level Military Certifications

SAN JOSE, Calif.: Sanmina-SCI Corporation, a leading manufacturing solutions company making some of the world's most complex and valuable electronic and mechanical products, today announced it has achieved the highest level certifications required for the defense and aerospace industry at four of its facilities.

"Achieving these latest certifications demonstrates Sanmina-SCI's ability to provide our defense and aerospace customers with the highest level of quality and technological expertise available," said Mike Underwood, President of Sanmina-SCI's Defense and Aerospace Systems division. "Our understanding of the sensitive distinctions necessary to design and manufacture mission-critical military products has allowed us to create trusted partnerships with our defense and aerospace customers. These certifications recognize our products design expertise, state-of-the-art facilities, and superior quality systems in our global operations, all of which enable us to ensure the highest standard of product reliability."

The certifications include:

Capability Maturity Model Integration for Development (CMMI-DEV) Level 3 Certification – Huntsville, Alabama

The Defense and Aerospace Systems Division Software Engineering Department received the Capability Maturity Model Integration for Development (CMMI-DEV) Level 3 Certification. CMMI for Development consists of best practices that address development and maintenance activities applied to products and services, based upon the CMMI Framework developed by the Software Engineering Institute (SEI). It addresses practices that cover the product lifecycle from conception through delivery and maintenance, with emphasis on the work necessary to build and maintain the total product. CMMI for Development is recognized internationally.

Sanmina-SCI's Defense and Aerospace Systems division provides products for defense and aerospace customers through design and manufacturing services that include engineering/development, supply chain management, manufacturing and assembly, testing, logistics and distribution, and post-delivery repair/warranty solutions.

AS9100 Certification for Backplane and Cable Manufacturing and Assembly – San Jose, California and Monterrey, Mexico

Sanmina-SCI's facility in San Jose, California achieved AS9100 certification for backplane and cable manufacturing and assembly. The company's Monterrey, Mexico facility also received AS9100 certification for cable and electromechanical assemblies and manufacturing. AS9100 is the standard developed by the International Aerospace Quality Group for quality assurance in design, New Product Introduction (NPI), manufacturing and servicing. The AS9100 requirements guarantee that significant improvements in quality are delivered to the aerospace industry, while reducing cost throughout the supply chain.

The San Jose and Monterrey facilities provide product design and development, NPI and full production and testing capabilities for backplanes, cables and system assembly. In addition to these two facilities, Sanmina-SCI has a network of 14 additional global AS9100 certified facilities, ensuring the company's defense and aerospace customers receive the highest level of quality service and leading technology capabilities anywhere in the world.

AS9100 Revision C Certification – Chennai, India

The Sanmina-SCI Chennai facility is among the first in India to receive the newest AS9100 Revision C certification. The certification extends the AS9100 market segments to include defense, in addition to aviation and aerospace. Revision C broadens the definitions of AS9100 criteria, creating more stringent controls throughout the manufacturing process and ensuring greater safety, efficiency and customer satisfaction along the entire product lifecycle.

The Chennai facility provides complete end-to-end manufacturing services. Along with design and value engineering to NPI services, the facility also specializes in printed circuit board (PCB) and full system assemblies, lead-free processes (RoHS-compliance) and supply chain management.

Sanmina-SCI makes some of the most complex and valuable electronic and mechanical products in the world, manufacturing mission-critical products. The company's global footprint and complete end-to-end supply chain solutions allow Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to compete effectively in today's marketplace.
