ST. LOUIS: Charter Communications has recently completed the launch of free Charter On Demand programming from The Walt Disney Company family of networks to its digital customers. Episodes of top shows from ABC, ABC Family, Disney Channel, Disney XD, ESPN and SOAPnet will be available the day following their original air date and time.

The new On Demand content will include standard and high-definition (HD) versions of popular ABC broadcast programs, as well as standard-definition content from ABC Family, Disney Channel, ESPN and SOAPnet, adding to the more than 6,500 movies and shows already On Demand, with thousands available for free.

"With this addition to Charter's ever-expanding On Demand library, digital customers can access movies and favorite cable and broadcast shows anytime they choose," said Rich DiGeronimo, Vice President of Product Management for Charter. "With FIFA World Cup matches on demand, our customers won't have to worry about missing any of the action. The convenience and ease of programming available on Charter On Demand is valuable to our customers in their busy lives."

The On Demand ABC programming features new episodes of viewer-favorite ABC shows including "Castle" and "Cougar Town," as well as new series "Happy Town," "Scoundrels" and "Rookie Blue." In addition, each week's "Good Morning America" episodes will also be available. Viewers can find this ABC content located in Charter's On Demand library on channel 1 in the "Primetime Free" category.

New On Demand content from other Disney networks also includes:

  • ABC Family shows located in the "Kids and Teens Free" category of On Demand.
  • Disney Channel programming located in the "Kids and Teens Free" category of On Demand.
  • Disney XD live-action and animated programming for kids ages 6-14 located in the "Kids and Teens Free" category of On Demand.
  • ESPN content will vary seasonally, but will include sports documentaries, the 64 matches from the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa in this month, content from the X Games, college football, World Series of Poker, classic boxing matches, college basketball conference championship games and more, located in On Demand's "Sports Free" category.
  • SOAPnet programming located in the "Style and Home Free" category of On Demand.
With Charter On Demand, digital customers have access to more than 6,500 movies and shows, including high-definition content and exclusive programming.

Customers will have the ability to pause and rewind ABC VOD content, however the fast-forward option will not be available for ABC's VOD programming only. Third-party research conducted by Knowledge Networks/Statistical Research has shown that viewers of ABC VOD content with fast-forwarding disabled overwhelmingly (93 percent) found the advertising acceptable in exchange for gaining free access to favorite shows through the convenience of video on demand. The research also indicated that the addition of ABC series to VOD increased customer visits to and satisfaction with the VOD platform.
