Low-cost carrier SpiceJet on Sunday launched its daily direct
Delhi-Surat-Delhi service with a traditional flag-off and lamp lighting
ceremony at Surat airport, the airlines said.
The new flight is in line with the emphasis being laid on "regional connectivity", SpiceJet said in a release in Surat.
"The new flight is part of enhanced summer schedule and will augment its connectivity in the domestic sector," it said.
The
flight was inaugurated by Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant
Sinha, who was accompanied by SpiceJet Chairman Ajay Singh, along with
others, on board the Boeing 737-800 aircraft in the flight from Delhi to
Surat.
"SpiceJet is proud to connect Surat, one of the fastest
growing cities of the country with the national capital. Our twice daily
flights will offer immense flexibility to the corporate and leisure
travellers on the SpiceJet network," Singh said in the statement.
The new flight was greeted with the traditional water cannon salute after it landed at Surat airport, the release said.
The first boarding pass was handed over to the first passenger at Surat Airport, it added.
