Chinese handset manufacturer Xiaomi on Thursday launched its flagship global smartphone Mi 4i in India for Rs.12,999.

"India is extremely significant to Xiaomi. It is our largest international market outside of mainland China, and I am truly excited that Mi 4i will be launching first in India, followed by our other global markets," said Xiaomi founder and chief executive officer Lei Jun.

Mi 4i features a 5-inch 1080p full HD display with a sleek unibody design. It is powered by Snapdragon 615 second-gen 64-bit 8 core processor at 1.7 GHz clock speed, which has been created by Qualcomm.

Xiaomi has collaborated with manufacturing partner Foxconn to manufacture a motherboard that is one of the smallest and thinnest found in a phone this size, making space for a huge 3120mAh battery that can power through 1.5 days of normal usage -- that is on average 38 percent more battery capacity across 5-inch premium devices, and 72 percent higher capacity than the iPhone 6 battery.

It also features 4G dual SIM slots with a 13 mega pixel (MP) front and 2 MP rear camera.

Xiaomi Global vice president Hugo Barra also announced that the extremely popular Mi Band is coming to India, and will be sold exclusively on Mi.com.

Xiaomi is already selling one million units of the Mi Band a month, and Mi India fans will now be able to get their hands on one.
