The buyer-seller meet held as part of the Coir Kerala 2014 Monday saw business deals close to the expected Rs.150 crore target being sealed, said state Revenue and Coir Minister Adoor Prakash.

Prakash, who inaugurated the buyer-seller meet, said it was a major success with the manufacturers and exporters managing to strike business deals with buyers who have come to attend the meet.

"Apart from the private exporters, the public sector undertakings (PSUs) also zeroed in on business deals with the buyers. We expect these to be worth close to our target of Rs 150 crore. Only at a later stage, we will be able to exactly quantify the deals," he said.

Coir Kerala 2014, the fourth edition of the international trade fair being held here, ends on Wednesday and has seen participation by hundreds of foreign and domestic buyers of coir and natural fibre products.

"The buyer-seller meet is the most crucial interactions of the Coir Kerala event. More and more buyers and exhibitors are taking interest in Coir Kerala every year and we want to see this increased participation translate into a solid business opportunity for everyone," said Prakash.

Coir Secretary Rani George said the government was successful in finding new markets for the coir products through Coir Kerala and the main aim of organising the event was to increase the business and thereby ensure more job and better wages for over three lakh coir workers in the state.
