MP Birla group flagship Birla Corporation Monday reported a 26.40 percent rise in its net profit to Rs.72.63 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2013, from Rs. 57.46 crore during the same period a year ago.

During the fourth quarter last fiscal, the Kolkata-based company's net income stood at Rs.678.03 crore against Rs.659.84 crore same quarter previous fiscal.

Profit after tax for the financial year 2012-13 was higher at Rs.270 crore against Rs.239 crore for the financial year 2011-12, the company said in a release.

Commenting on the annual results, chairman Harsh V. Lodha said the company had achieved its highest ever cement production and despatches at 64.44 lakh tons and 64.67 lakh tons respectively during the year under review.
