NSIC chief honoured with Laghu Udyog Ratan Award

Chairman & Managing Director of National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC), Dr. H.P. Kumar has been awarded with one of the most prestigious award of the Small & Medium Enterprise (SME) sector - Laghu Udyog Ratan Award on Wednsday.
The highest honour Laghu Udyog Ratan Award went to Dr. H.P. Kumar, Chairman & Managing Director, NSIC for his outstanding contribution to growth & Development of Indian SMEs.
At an event organised by Global Small & Medium Business (SMB) Chamber of Commerce, stalwarts connected with the SME industry were honoured by Dr. Yoganand Shastri, Speaker of the Delhi Assembly with Laghu Udyog awards.
The Laghu Udyog Mitra award went to Rajen Kumar, Chief Editor, SME World, while the Laghu Udyog Gaurav award went to Harideesh Kumar B, General Manager & Regional Head Vijaya Bank and B Shriram, Circle General Manager, State Bank of India.
In order to appreciate their contributions in highlighting the critical importance of the SME sector, the Global SMB Chamber of Commerce Wednesday honoured individuals and institutions with these very special awards.
In his address, Yoganand Shastri said, "There was a time when India was renowned the world over as the proverbial golden bird and it is through initiatives like the one taken by SMB Chambers to draw attention to the SME sector that India's glory can be restored."
Present at the ceremony were Guest Of Honour, V. Kanan, Executive Director, Oriental Bank of Commerce, Naseer O Okoth, First Secretary, Kenyan High Commission, Rajeshwar Painuly, Executive President, Global SMB Chamber and VK Bansal, Executive Director Global SMB Chamber.
The purpose behind these very special awards is to appreciate the contributions of individuals and institutions in highlighting the critical importance of the SME sector. Small and Medium Enterprises or SME's have played a pivotal role in India's growth story, contributing 8 percent of the GDP, and 40 percent of the total exports from India. This sector of the Indian economy comprises a whopping 95 percent of all industrial units in the country and 45 percent of the total manufacturing output.
Executive Director of the SMB Chamber, VK Bansal said, "With these awards we hope to bring to the fore the contributions of outstanding individuals and organisations that have made selfless contributions to the SME industry."
On this occasion a brochure pertaining to the Africa International Engineering & Technology Fair was released. This is scheduled to be held on 6-7 December 2012 at Nairobi ,Kenya and has been organised by Global SMB Chamber of Commerce ,Industry & Services. This is another step towards creating a global market for Indian SMEs.
With a view to spreading awareness about the importance of the SME sector to the Indian economy through the length and breadth of the country, SMB Chambers plans to hold an SME meet and felicitation ceremony in the state of Uttrakhand as well as in Hyderabad in the coming months.
