An island nation located to the northeast of Madagascar, Seychelles seeks India's cooperation in developing micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) sector by exchanging expertise between the two nations, informed its minister Monday.

"Seychelles and India share strong cultural and historic relations and that this visit would strengthen cooperation in sectors like Tourism, Civil Aviation, SME etc.," Tourism and Culture Minister of Seychelles, Alain St Ange said this during his meeting with Union Minister Kalraj Mishra in New Delhi on Monday.

He further stated that Seychelles could be considered as the gateway to Africa and that there is tremendous scope improving bilateral trade between both the countries.

Seychelles, officially the Republic of Seychelles, is a 155-island country spanning an archipelago in the Indian Ocean, lies some 1,500 kilometres east of mainland Southeast Africa.

Union Minister for MSME, Kalraj Mishra welcomed the visiting dignitaries to India and recalled the historic and friendly ties that India has with Seychelles.

He stated the Prime Minister of India is keen to strengthen relations with neighbouring countries and to work towards peace and prosperity in the region.

He assured Seychelles of all help and cooperation in the development of MSME sector.

The Minister (MSME) also invited Alain St. Ange to visit the NSIC-TECHMART exhibition which will be held during the India International Trade Fair at New Delhi in November 2014.

The Seychelles Minister was accompanied by H.E. Waven William, the High Commissioner of Seychelles to India and a six member business delegation.

The Indian side was represented by Madhav Lal, Secretary (MSME), S.N. Tripathi, Joint Secretary (MSME) and B.H. Anil Kumar, Joint Secretary (MSME).
