Abu Dhabi has been named among the top 100 busiest global destinations for meetings, in the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) rankings.

The UAE capital jumped to the top 100 from the 234th place in 2011.

Abu Dhabi is now ranked alongside other major meetings cities including Atlanta, Georgia, Brasilia and Perth, and higher than established global hubs such as Las Vegas and Cologne, Germany.

Abu Dhabi is one of only two Gulf cities to make it to the top 100 - the other is Dubai in 60th place.

In 2012, the total number of events hosted at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre grew to 360 from 232 the previous year, an increase of 55 percent.

In addition, 17 conferences that attracted 25,000 participants, and 111 special events and meetings were held.
