The UAE foreign ministry's directorate of energy and climate change has participated at the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) in Abu Dhabi.

A pavilion featuring the role of the directorate was set up at the conference, lastb week. Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and other officials visited the pavilion. Foreign visitors included UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon and Iceland President Olafur Ragnar Grimsson.

WFES offered an excellent opportunity to share the latest energy initiatives among the representatives of domestic and foreign governments, industry, NGOs and academia, officials said.

Meanwhile, UAE Foreign Minister Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi Friday held a meeting with an Arab business delegation to boost trade cooperation. They also discussed the latest developments at the Arab region.

Lubna said the tourism sector in the UAE has grown considerably in the last decade. Restaurants and hotels contributed 23 billion dirhams to the GDP in 2010 compared to 10 billion dirhams in 2002. She said tourism is one of the service sectors that get attention from the decision makers in the UAE.
