Urging discoms to reduce transmission losses caused due to theft using technology to be available soon, said Singh while addressing the 98th Annual Session of The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) on Tuesday.

The power minister said that we will fix surcharges in the new tariff policy. We are spendingabout Rs. 1,32,000crore to fix distribution system of the country.

We started off as a energy deficit country, added about 102 Gigawatt in the last three years. ‘Sufficient energy generation is a challenge for the country’, said Mr. Singh at an event.

He also mentioned that power distribution, losses on account of bill dues, theft are major challenges. So, need to switch over to technology. The technology enforcement needed in the power sector to minimise the loss.‘Stressed assets are going to be gold mines’, said Mr. Singh.

Adding 32 million new consumers, already added 16 million from October 11, 2017 till date.  We are adding consumers 1 lakh per day, market not an issue, said power minister.
