Small and medium enterprises from India and Afghanistan have huge scope for cooperation, said Commerce Secretary Rahul Khullar in New Delhi on Thursday.

"While promoting economic activities in Afghanistan, there is a great potential for picking up bilateral projects in textiles, agro-processing and small and medium industry in Afghanistan," Khullar said while speaking at a FICCI event on "India-Afghanistan Parliamentary Forum".

He said that there are no monetary issues between the nations but it is requisite that the skills, technologies, and entrepreneurship should be brought together and developed in order to enhance economic and bilateral ties between both the nations.

"The important thing is the government will not improve the ties, it is the businessmen who have to do it," he added.

He said that there is sufficient goodwill and support available in terms of money and financial backdrops are concerned.

Khullar pointed out although India is very actively involved with Afghanistan in range of issues, he feels that the export growth from Afghanistan to India which has been at 16 percent last year is very slow.

The announcement by India last year to allow duty-free export of all items into the country by Least Developed Countries (LDCs) of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) is an important market opening for Afghanistan and it is for you now to figure out what you want to sell to India, he added.

The other areas of  cooperation between both the countries are Cement, Steel, Hydrocarbons, Construction and construction materials, Energy and natural resources, Transport, Logistics, Pharmaceuticals and Chemical,  Banking and financial services, Telecom Services, Real estate and tourism, etc.
