Chinese handset-maker Gionee on Thursday launched its flagship E8 smartphone in India in partnership with domestic e-commerce player Snapdeal at a price of Rs.34,999.

"Gionee's E8 is going to be one of the finest offering to the Indian smartphone market with its cutting edge technology and design element. Built to perform like a professional camera for today's user, the E8 offers every aspect and dimension of a professional camera," said William Lu, Gionee global president.

The new smartphone, which will come with a 24 megapixel rear camera, will run on Android Lollipop and will be powered by Mediatek's octa-core MT6795 Helio X10 chipset and a 3 GB RAM unit.

Along with biological (fingerprint) recognition system it also offers Dual SIM 4G and a 6.0 inch quad-HD super AMOLED display.

In terms of storage, it will come with 64 GB of internal memory but no expandable storage. Other features include NFC, Dual Speaker, Hi-Fi Sound, 3500 mAh Battery and fast charging.

"E8 is the flagship for Gionee India and is one of the best camera phones if not the best in the market. We are very excited to find a great strategic partner as Snapdeal for Gionee ELIFE E8," said Arvind Vohra, country head of Gionee India.

The company had earlier announced that it would investing $50 million to contract manufacture handsets in association with Taiwan-based electronics assembly manufacturer Foxconn and Noida-based electronics manufacturing services (EMS) provider Dixon.

"Gionee will be investing $50 million in the next three years on manufacturing in India. While Foxconn will make Gionee handsets out of Andhra Pradesh, Dixon will use its Delhi-based facility to manufacture Gionee phones," the company had said.

Foxconn will manufacture the F Series and P Series of Gionee phones while Dixon will be making feature phones and other smartphones for Gionee in India.

"India is the second home market to Gionee after China and the investment in India manufacturing is just another step in a line up of much more to come for the Indian market and customers," William Lu said.

Both the EMS partners have started production in October and combined have a capacity of more than 1.2 million handsets per month.
