Passenger car market leader Maruti Suzuki Tuesday reported an increase of 3.4 percent in its total sales in April, including exports, which stood at 100,415 units from 97,155 units sold in the corresponding month of last year.
Domestic sales grew by 3.6 percent in the month under review at 90,255 units from 87,144 units sold in April 2012. Exports rose by 1.5 percent at 10,160 units as against 10,011 units shipped out in the corresponding period of 2011.
However, the total passenger sals in April declined by 1.3 percent at 72,939 units from 73,905 units sold in the corresponding month of last year.
Segment-wise, sales of the company's entry level hatchback brands like M800, Alto, A-Star and Wagon R declined by 26.4 percent at 30,720 units from 41,744 units sold in the like period of 2011.
Sales of mid-size passenger car SX4 declined by 69.8 percent in the month under review at 634 units from 2,102 units sold in April 2011.
The auto majors' compact brands like Swift, Estilo and Ritz had a healthy sales growth of 43 percent in April at 26,072 units from 18,227 units sold in the like period of 2011.
Super compact car DZire too posted good sales figures in April with a growth of 31.5 percent at 15,510 units from 11,797 units sold in the corresponding period of last year.
Utility vehicles like Grand Vitara, Gypsy and Ertiga sales stood at 5,593 units, while sales of vans like Omni and Eeco declined by 10 percent at 11,723 units from 13,022 units sold in April last year.
