A recovery officer with the Debt Recovery Tribunal (DRT) in Mumbai and his accomplice were arrested for allegedly demanding Rs 7 lakh bribe for releasing payment in a case, a CBI official said on Monday.

"The recovery officer demanded Rs 7 lakh bribe from the complainant and instructed him to hand over the amount in the form of a cheque to a private person (middleman) for releasing payment in favour of complainant's client," said the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officer.

Recovery officer B.S. Sane and middleman Vijay Kumar were arrested on Sunday and produced before a special court which sent them to the agency's custody till June 28.

The agency also conducted raids at Sane's residence and recovered documents of fixed deposits worth Rs 65 lakh, Kisan Vikas Patra investments worth Rs 9 lakh and some property documents.
