Inaugurating the exhibition, Additional Secretary - Textiles and Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Pushpa Subrahmanyam Thursday said that it is the effort of the Government to ensure that all funds that are spent go directly for upliftment and protection of artisans.

Speaking about Government programmes in the handicrafts sector, Subrahmanyam said that the Government is making efforts to ensure funds go directly for welfare of artisans.

She said that service delivery mechanisms are being improved to make this happen, through schemes such as Direct Benefit Transfer.

The DC (Handicrafts) said that the Government is focussing on better coordination and stronger collaborations with state federations such as Lepakshi, in promoting designs and in helping artisans tap the fast-growing demand from domestic as well as export markets.

She added that there are more than fifty crafts on display at the exhibition.

The exhibition is being organized by Andhra Pradesh Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited (an undertaking of the Government of Andhra Pradesh), from September 3 - 14.

The Lepakshi Exhibition-cum-Sale is a promotional programme intended to help the craftspersons increase the sales of their products and thereby improve their living conditions.

Craftspersons, weavers and manufacturers of artistic handicrafts and textiles from different parts of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana exhibit and sell their products in this exhibition. Items from other states are also added to give a wider choice to craft lovers.

Artisans display the world-famous Hyderabadi pearls; soft wood toys and dolls from Kondapalli, Etikoppaka and Nirmal Village; carved wooden wall panels and statues from Tirupati; hand painting of Srikalahasthi; Cherial and Nirmal Paintings; crochet lace work of Narsapur; cotton durries and brass artware of Warangal; leather puppets and lamp shades of Nimmala Kunta, artificial jewellery, metal castings and Bidriware from Hyderabad at exhibition.
