The Rajasthan government on Tuesday approved investment proposals worth Rs.1.56 lakh crore in the solar power sector.

The proposals were approved at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje.

"We gave approval for investment proposals worth Rs.1,56,000 crore for solar power production of 26,000 MW in Rajasthan," Parliamentary Affairs Minister Rajendra Rathore said at a press conference.

He said four companies signed agreements for solar energy production under the Rajasthan Solar Energy Policy, 2014.

IL&FS Energy Ltd. and Essel Infra Projects Ltd. would develop solar parks of 5,000 MW capacity each, Adani Enterprises would install one park of 10,000 MW capacity and Reliance Power Ltd. of 6,000 MW.

The state government also entered into agreements with Sun Edison Solar Power India Pvt. Ltd. for setting up a solar power plant of 5,000 MW production capacity, and with Ajure Power India Pvt. Ltd. for a plant of 1,000 MW capacity.

The cabinet also condoled the death of former president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.

The meeting also took a decision on recovery of mobile phones and other banned items from prisons to be made cognizable and non-bailable offences.
