The Uttar Pradesh government Monday gave its nod to the construction of an international airport in Agra. The proposal already has the approval of the central government, and a site for the project will soon be earmarked.

In another gift for Agra, the state cabinet, at its meeting Monday chaired by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, also approved a scheme to upgrade and broaden roads leading to the 17th century Taj Mahal, frequently visited by international and domestic tourists.

All the roads leading to the monument of love, an official told IANS, would be upgraded and beautified to "give a good picture to domestic and international tourists".

The state cabinet also approved a proposal to lease out a stretch of five acres of land for 99 years in Jagdishpur area of Amethi to Uttar Pradesh Tourism for the construction of an Indian Institute of Hotel Management (IIHM), with aid from the central government.

It was also decided that a plot in Azamgarh will be given free to the dairy development department for the setting up of a new dairy.
