Singaporean telecommunications company Singtel and Swedish communication technology firm Ericsson on Friday announced a partnership to co-develop a consumer internet of things (IoT) solution called Assured+.

They also launched an IoT open alliance to facilitate the adoption of new technologies for IoT applications.

The new technologies -- Cat-1, Cat-M1 and NB-IoT -- will help support dialogue and interaction among various players in the IoT ecosystem in Singapore.

"We believe that the combination of the IoT open alliance and the Assured+ solution will enable us to achieve these aims," Yuen Kuan Moon, Chief Executive Officer, Consumer Singapore at Singtel, said in a statement.

The IoT open alliance will also feature field-testing services for IoT applications at the Singtel Innovation Lab.

"Mobile operators' network expertise on matters of security and privacy position them as the obvious leaders of IoT connectivity initiatives," added Per Borgklint, Chief Innovation Officer and head of Business Unit Media at Ericsson.

"These advantages combined with operators' existing relationships with device manufacturers, large subscriber bases and established retail channels open the door to true IoT industry transformation opportunities," Borgklint added.

Ericsson and Singtel will demonstrate Assured+ during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) that will be held in Barcelona, Spain, from February 27 to March 2.
