The integration of information and communication technologies has revolutionized the modus operandi  of any business. Today, the Internet has changed the entire world, transforming it into a global village. So much so that today almost every international trader across the world is setting up his virtual office on the Internet, where he can deal with his clients sitting in any part of the world just with the help of his laptop and mobile phone.

In the fast changing global economic set up, e- commerce and e-business have become key components of of business strategy, which not only ensures greater interaction with customers but also help reduce operational costs.

In places like Europe and the USA, people cannot think of a business without internet. During the last Seven years global Internet usage has grown by 266%, and is further slated to grow manifold in the coming years.

Internet has indeed helped even the smallest of the companies across the globe to access the buyers, which otherwise remained in the exclusive access domain of selected companies.

According to Mr. Varun Bakliwal, Partner La Boutique, "Today, Internet is especially beneficial for the small players. By creating our own websites we can virtually display our products and can also contact buyers and vice verse. So, indeed we can't even think about doing business with the net. And all the entrepreneurs who are in the SME (Small and Medium Enterprise) sector must use Internet if they want to grow ".

*Whereas, according to Mr. Maninder Singh, of Raun Herman Private Ltd.,"Internet has been a driving force where with a small investment one can reach out to customers all over the world. Samples of goods to be exported can be sent all over the world so it saves transport costs. So, Internet has really helped the exporters to become globally competitive and has helped them to do business with clients all over the world".

Unfortunately, in India even now there are a large number entrepreneurs especially in the SME sector who are not using the Internet as they are still not aware of its reach and power.

The need of the hour is to make the entrepreneurs and exporters aware about the use of Internet by the government so that they can use it to source buyers through searching important portals and to increase trade contacts and clients through Internet.Exporters can also make use of the various Internet tools for knowing the credentials of international buyers before doing business with them.

Thus, its high time that the exporters wake up and understand the power of the Internet that has today changed the way the world does business.
