Technology has always been a resource that can significantly enhance business and individual productivity. What has changed in recent years is the dramatic decrease in cost and the increasing range of tools that any business can employ, said Kuldeep Bhayana, MD and co founder of Jaarwis Technology in exclusive interview with SME Times.
He said, "In India, as well as in other countries, SMEs are usually slowest to adopt new technology. Lack of access, scale and exposure are common reasons. Over time, we believe as technology becomes cheaper and more widely adopted, the SMEs will follow suit."
Excerpts of the interview...
Tell us something about your company Jaarwis Technology ? Kuldeep Bhayana: Jaarwis Technology is a global technology company primarily focused on the use of cutting-edge technology coupled with deep business and finance experience to build unique online businesses. Jaarwis Technology was founded in late 2013 by three experienced co-founders Gabriel Fong, CEO of Jaarwis Technology (and also Chairman of Hong Kong's smart logistics company GoGoVan) and technologists Kuldeep Bhayana and Jaspal Sarai. Their combined world-class experience has brought phenomenal growth and progress since its establishment, with a staff headcount of over 80 engineers and business professionals as well as several launched ventures. The ventures are across business verticals in wearable technology and e-commerce platforms, such as the smart internet-of-things platform device TAG, e-commerce enabler for small businesses Scribe A Store and online marketplace for handymen CallFixie. Jaarwis Technology ventures are a result of its people's entrepreneurial ideas, its expertise and resources. Jaarwis Technology has offices in Hong Kong, Australia and India.
What motivated you to start Jaarwis Technology? What sort of services your company is offering to the customers? Kuldeep Bhayana: We believe a new period of industrial revolution is taking place. With the Internet and smartphones, customers and users are now using technology in all facets of their life -- whether in communications, shopping, learning, searching, etc. The amount of time one spends on the cellphone now is quickly becoming very significant. Indeed, the cellphone is probably one of the few indispensable items for most people.
All of our ventures are focused on solving specific problems that people face. For example, CallFixie streamlines and makes it far more efficient and safer for users to select handyman, repairman for various jobs. CallFixie saves time and money for both users as well as the service provider. We believe technology can be used to enhance the quality of our lives and disrupting old, inefficient ways that some businesses are still based on.
Technology is an important aspect for a successful business. What is your opinion about this? Kuldeep Bhayana: Technology has always been a resource that can significantly enhance business and individual productivity. What has changed in recent years is the dramatic decrease in cost and the increasing range of tools any business can employ. Leveraging the effective use of technology is a competitive advantage in the modern business world that no business can ignore. The ability to reach millions of customers globally, range of sales and CRM tools to enhance sales, productivity tools to increase transparency and manage cost makes technology vital in any business.
How your services are useful of small and medium entrepreneurs? Kuldeep Bhayana: For example, through Scribe A Store, Jaarwis Technology provides a platform where Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) can introduce their products and services to a nationwide and global audience. In addition, they can access various tools to more effectively manage their sales strategy as well as their backend requirements. All this allows them to focus their time and resources on driving up the profitability of their businesses.
Do you think SMEs (Small and Medium enterprises) are lacking in terms of innovation and technology up-gradation? Kuldeep Bhayana: In India, as well as in other countries, SMEs are usually slowest to adopt new technology. Lack of access, scale and exposure are common reasons. Over time, we believe as technology becomes cheaper and more widely adopted, the SMEs will follow suit. Jaarwis Technology's Scribe A Store is one such offering that will help them.
Jaarwis Technology is going to promote entrepreneurship in India through its unique program, please tell us something about that? Kuldeep Bhayana: Jaarwis Technology aims to help transfer some of its expertise and help promote entrepreneurial ship and innovation in India. With the Jaarwis Accelerator, we have devised an extensive 4 month incubation and accelerator program for early stage start-ups or aspiring entrepreneurs. During the program, seekers will get daily access to Jaarwis' in-house staff of engineers, marketing and business professionals as well as the Mentors. This in-house expertise is available to selected incubatees during the 4 month program for free. At the end of the 4 month program, the startups will be well groomed and will present their vision to investors and venture capitalists for potential funding.
Would you like to share the motive of your this unique program? Kuldeep Bhayana: We are living in a global village where businesses, be it large or SME, need every advantage they can get. Creative ideas are floating around with lots of young and incredible minds. One has to twist them into viable business models. At Jaarwis, we act as the transformation medium that converts business ideas into working models of success and that's where Jaarwis Accelerator program comes in. We believe in empowering and equipping entrepreneurs, making them capable of turning their disruptive ideas into reality.
How SMEs can be benefited with this program? And what will be the scope of this program? Like how many SMEs will be benefited with this program? Kuldeep Bhayana: SMEs can benefit from many of these startups that JA will help nurture. There will be services and products that will be well-suited for SMEs. Again, our own Scribe A Store is a great example. CallFixie will also be extremely helpful too for SMEs who own and manage facilities as they no longer need to manage an in-house crew but simply outsource a non-core service.
